I
t seems like the Indian car market has decided not to create a hue and cry about their new launches and quietly bring in their latest models and surprise the audience.

Recently this strategy was displayed by Audi India which launched Audi A4, Audi S4 and even Audi Q3 in the same manner, Mercedes Benz C-Class 250 CDI AMG also came in quietly.

And now we see the next gen 2012 Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 AT premium sports utility vehicle drive in, in the same manner, at a starting price of Rs 18.74 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

DC Design launches Avanti sports car with Rs 30 lakh price tag

Automotive design firm DC Design launched its Avanti sports car at the 11th Auto Expo here on Thursday with a price tag of Rs30 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company said it will start producing the Avanti from 2013, with initial production of 300 units, which may increase later.
Speaking on the launch, DC Design founder and promoter Dilip Chhabria said: "We intend to produce 300 units of the Avanti in 2013-2014 and if all goes well, we could ramp up production to go into four figures per annum."

This is the first time Dilip Chhabria is producing his designs instead of one-offs. The car will be produced at the DC Design facility at Talegaon, near Pune.
"We are extremely ecstatic to present the DC Avanti today... also as a calling card for our own capabilities, which have now progressed from mere styling in the early days to full prototyping and bespoke one-off manufacturing," Chhabria added.
The company said it will be using proprietary parts from various car-makers, especially in the areas of the drive train and suspension of the car, which would be powered by a Ford EcoBoost 2.0-litre four-cylinder, dohc, 16-valve engine.
The cars will be available at the firm's self-owned and managed sales and service network in five major metros in the country (Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad). An additional four outlets would also be opened in the course of 2012, the company said.
Bookings for the Avanti will start after the Auto Expo and the deliveries will be from the last quarter of calendar 2013, it added.
Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt Ltd was founded by Dilip Chhabria and has an over 600-strong portfolio of unique cars/vehicles built and on the road.
The car was unveiled by actor and star Amitabh Bachchan.

3D PRINTING

                                          3D PRINTING

 A large number of competing
technologies are available to
do 3D printing

3D printing is a form of additive
manufacturing technology
where a three dimensional
object is created by laying
down successive layers of material.
3D printers are generally faster,
more affordable and easier to use
than other additive manufacturing
technologies. Advanced 3D printing
technologies yield models that
can serve as product prototypes. A
large number of competing technologies
are available to do 3D
printing.

 Their main differences
are found in the way layers are built
to create parts. Some methods use
melting or softening material to
produce the layers. In the case of
lamination systems, thin layers are
cut to shape and joined
together.
Each method has its
advantages and drawbacks,
and consequently
some companies
offer a choice
between powder
and polymer as the material
from which the object
emerges. Generally,
the main considerations
are speed,
cost of the printed prototype,
cost of the 3D printer, choice
and cost of materials and color

3D printing technology is currently
being studied by biotechnology
firms and academia for possible
use in tissue engineering applications
where organs and body parts
are built using ink jet techniques.
Layers of living cells are deposited
onto a gel medium and slowly
built up to form three dimensional
structures. Several terms have
been used to refer to this field of
research: Organ printing, bioprinting,
and computer-aided tissue
printing among others. 3D printing
can produce a personalized hip
replacement in one pass, with the
ball permanently inside the socket,
and even at current printing resolutions
the unit will not require
polishing.
